Oceanography and Marine Science

OEMG is able to manage, run or participate in oceanographic projects. This includes the scientific data collection (plankton, water, benthic infauna etc), and oceanographic data (Tide, current, weather, physicochemical etc). We are also able to assist in the design operation of specialist programs such as sediment flux, dredge plume monitoring and drill cutting plume monitoring. read more »
Epibenthic Studies

We undertake epibenthic studies such as video transects utilising the line intercept method. To aid in the undertaking of there surveys, OEMG is developing a portable, low cost and reliable video overlay system for underwater video cameras.
Geographical Information Systems

OEMG provides mapping services from site layouts, coordinate conversion, data collection, data interogation and charting.
Project Management

We undertake Project Management or operational control of large projects that often exceed 1 million USD in value. Projects include high resolution siesmic surveys, marine geophysical surveys, rig placement surveys, marine environmental impact studies, marine environmental baseline surveys etc. OEMG will always work with the client to achieve the best results on time and within budget.

Barzan Phase 3 Environmental Baseline Survey - Technical Specialist
This was the third and final environmental survey for this stage of the Barzan field development in Qatar. Plankton sampling, grab sampling, water sampling and physicochemical sampling were all undertaken as part of the job.
Luderitz, Namibia - Senior Surveyor
Namport has requested CSIR and Demco NV to carry out a combined resistivity, boomer and sidescan survey in the port of Luderitz, Namibia. The boomer and sidescan surveys were carried out by CSIR while the resistivity survey was carried out by Demco using the Aquares Resistivity System. All three systems were run simultaneously. The aim of the survey was to map subsurface geology in view of the planned port expansion.
Pre-dredge Survey, Mussafah Channel Abu Dhabi - Party Chief
This project was to provide information on a calcarinite layer within the dredge area utilising the Aquares Resistivity System.
Barzan Phase 2 Environmental Baseline Survey - Technical Specialist
This project was the environmental studies for the second phase of the Barzan field development in Qatar. Plankton sampling, grab sampling, water sampling, physicochemical sampling and video transects utilising a working class ROV were all undertaken as part of the job.
2D High Resolution Seismic survey Kazakhstan - Party Chief
This project was a pre-drill hazard survey utilising the Sercel Seal system. Approximately 900kms of survey was undertaken in 10 days.
Gravel Search, Sankaru River DR Congo - Senior Surveyor
This survey involved the installation of the Aquares resistivity system onto a small boat in remote areas of the DR Congo to search for river gravel in the diamond baring Sankaru river.
Dredging reconnaissance surveys along the UAE and Mussendam coastlines - Senior Surveyor / Party Chief
This project utilised the Aquares resistivity system developed by Demco Surveys, single beam surveys and positioning.
Djibouti Environmental Impact Assessment - Field Scientist
An environmental impact assessment was carried out to assess the likely environmental impacts on the marine habitat, specifically corals, adjacent to the proposed construction during the development and operational phases of the container terminal. The job involved conducting line intercept transects to provide percentage cover assessments of seagrass, algae and corals as well as collecting water quality data. Key assessment areas included light attenuation, deposition of sediments and susceptibility of corals to bleaching.
Djibouti Geophysical Assessment - Project Manager / Party Chief
This project involved undertaking a sub bottom survey of the area for the proposed container terminal. The water depth in the survey area varied between 2 and 20m with the client requiring 40m penetration. Despite the difficult conditions, we worked with the client to modify the system producing a dedicated tow cable that achieved good data to 35m below ACD.
Long Term Environmental Monitoring of the New Doha International Airport (NDIA) - Senior Scientist / Project Manager
This project is a large multi year assessment of the post construction impact of the NDIA. Project elements include Marine benthic habitat assessments, sediment traps and deposition assessments, ground water assessment, Air and noise modelling and geomorphological assessment of marine sediment transport.
Barzan Environmental Impact Assessment - Technical Specialist / Party Chief
This job involved providing technical assistance and leadership to the URS team undertaking the work offshore Doha. The job required the collection of Physicochemical and water samples from the water column at prescribed depths, collecting sediment samples using a Day grab and Plankton sampling.
Ras az Zawr Industrial City Environmental Values Study - Project Manager
This job involved the mobilisation of 8 scientists and an off shore vessel carrying two dive tenders to Saudi Arabia. Some 244 permanent transects were installed in addition to one month of turbidity and temperature data being collected from autonomous sensors.
South Pars Phase II (Iran) for Total Fina Elf - Project Manager
This was a site survey and pre-lay survey for this phase of the South Pars field development. This job included collecting over 1000km of Multibeam, Boomer and Pinger, Side Scan and Maggy Data with both near shore and off shore operations. An environmental Team also collected over 150 environmental samples and some 50 drop (piston) cores.
Mubarak Pipe, Cable and Jacket ROV Inspection for Crescent Petroleum (UAE) - Project Manager
This job involved the inspection of of the Mubarak field assets including Jackets, Flare Stacks, pipes and cables using a Sea-Eye Panther ROV. The ROV was fitted with Cathode Protection Stab and loop, Sector Scan, Video acquisition (VisualSoft and Fugro DV), FMD, DVL and USBL. The ROV was operated from the DP vessel Ekteshaf.
Pipe Line ROV inspection for Dubai Petroleum (UAE) - Project Manager
This project involved inspecting well over 1000km of pipelines operated by Dubai Petroleum. The ROV was equipped with CP stab and loop, Sector scan, Visual Works DV and USBL. The ROV was a Sea Lion and operated from the DP vessel, Subtec 2.
Site inspection for a Rig Move for Wintershall and Anadarko (Qatar) - Project Management
This project involved two 1km by 1km geophysical and environmental site surveys for a rig placement. The job included collecting Multibeam, Boomer and Pinger, Side Scan and Maggy Data as well as underwater video and stills and grab samples for the environmental assay. A 30m Marine Bore Hole was drilled on each site. The Survey was conducted from the vessel MV Zaker Fugro and the drilling from the vessel MV Zaker Star.
Pre-Lay inspection for pipes from Farozon field to Karg Is, Iran for PEDCO - Project Manager
This project was a route and landing survey for a pipeline installation. This job included collecting over 1000km of Multibeam, Boomer and Pinger, Side Scan and Maggy Data with both near shore and off shore operations and three 20m marine bore holes. The Survey was conducted from the DP vessel Ekteshaf and Drilling from the Vessel MV Zaker Star.
Pre dredge Survey for Sadiat Is development and the Salala Port Expansion ADTA (UAE) and Sala Port Authority - Project Manager
This project involved a multibeam, single beam and pinger survey of the pre-dredge areas around the construction sites.
New Doha International Airport for Bectel Overseas Corp - Project Manager, Senior Surveyor
This project was a seismic and clearance survey for dredging operations, which would include the dredging of some 50 million cubic meters of high quality fill. The job included the supervision of 2 survey teams and a vibrocoring team. Over 1000km of single beam survey and some 200km of seismic and magnetometer survey was completed.
Pearl of the Gulf (Doha Qatar) - Project Manager
This project involved the supervision of 2 drilling teams working 24 hours. The project included some 30 marine boreholes in water depths of 20cm to 4m.
North West Gas Project Libya for B6 - Senior Surveyor
This was a pipeline drag and route survey, which included Side Scan Sonar, Pinger, Single beam and Magnetometer surveys. Responsibilities included project management, vessel fit out, equipment installation, data management, demobilisation and reporting.
Festival City EIS (Dubai) - Project manager
This survey required the deployment of autonomous and direct reading current meters, a tide gauge and water quality analysers as well as seabed sampling for benthic and geochemical analysis. The benthic sampling included both macro and micro fauna. Geochemical sampling was for heavy metals in the sub 63 micron fraction of the sediment. Responsibilities included Client Liaison, Project design and management, training of staff, sampling, sample preparation, data management, managing consultants and reporting.
Dubai Municipality Sand Borrow and EIS - Technical specialist
This project required environmental sampling, geophysical survey, vibrocoring, data management, interpretation and reporting. Responsibilities included managing the vibrocoring, data management, mapping and reporting as well consulting for the environmental team.
Palm (Jumeirah) Island EIS - Technical Specialist
This project was a baseline study of the seabed conditions of the Palm Island development area, which included bathymetric surveying, benthic sampling and the deployment of two current meters. Responsibilities included sediment and benthic sampling, sample preparation, data review and reporting.
Kuwait Institute of Scientific Research - Project Manager
This project required detailed oceanographic studies to enable the modelling of the coastline for the construction of a new power and desalination plant. Included the use of ADCP units, impellor based current meters, tide gauges, water quality meters, directional wave meters, weather stations, RTK GPS and a single beam echo sounder. Responsibilities included conducting the bathymetric and water quality surveys, instrument deployment, seabed sampling, data management and collation using GIS, client relations, budget tracking and reporting.
Palm Island II Sand Borrow - Party Chief
This job was for the location of significant sand bodies in the vicinity of the development. The job required collecting over 400km of single beam and pinger data. Responsibilities included project management, team management, equipment instillation, data collection and reporting.
Kasab Oman - Party Chief
This project was a rig placement survey to meet operational and insurance requirements. The client required a geophysical survey of the proposed rig location including, Side Scan, Sub Bottom profiling (Pinger and Boomer), and Single Beam, all run simultaneously and well as water column profiling. Responsibilities included, project management, survey design, data management and collection, budget tracking etc.
ADCO (Dabyia) - Project Manager
Land and geotechnical survey of the field for rig placement and pipeline route survey. The job required RTK survey of land and intertidal areas of the route, bathymetric, side scan and sub-bottom surveys of the marine areas as well as 5m core samples of all the routes. Responsibilities included, project management, client liaison, managing three teams as well as conducting all marine works, daily logging, budget tracking and reporting. In addition, as this job was conducted in desert, marsh and marine areas in temperatures often exceeding 50 degrees celsius, health and safety was a major concern.
Globe Island Pre-Tender Survey - Party Chief
This job required the collection of over 7000km of bathymetric data involving multiple boats utilising both single and multibeam surveying and an extensive tidal study to ensure data integrity. Responsibilities included the mobilisation of the vessels, instillation of the onshore and offshore tide gauges, team management, data management and reporting.
Land Survey of Al Nakheel development. Project Manager. This project involved the land survey and drilling of the development area. Responsibilities included project management, team management, client liaison, GIS, RTK Surveying, data management and reporting.
Bathymetric, Geophysical & Geotechnical Survey of Aden Harbour, Yemen - Party Chief
Survey of Aden harbour (Yemen) including magnetometer surveys (Pulse Induction and Caesium), Hydrographic & land survey as well as geotechnical drilling. Responsibilities included project management, team management, client relations, mobilisation, instillation, surveying, GIS, budget tracking and reporting.
